Is the phone call or email I received legitimate? Is it actually from the team at the International Mass Timber Conference?

We email attendees and prospects approximately once a week from our Zoho account beginning late summer, early fall, and through the conference with news and updates about the event. And then we sporadically call and/or email attendees who have purchased passes, spaces, and sponsorships from our Cvent and Map Your Show accounts to discuss any account issues. We do not often reach out to attendees over the phone.

Scammers are out in force and their tactics change daily. Please beware if you receive a call or email from someone claiming to be with the International Mass Timber Conference. Take note...
  1. Do not purchase any Mass Timber Conference "attendee list." It is fake. We never sell, rent, or give the attendee list to anyone.
  2. Do not reserve a Mass Timber Conference hotel room from anyone who calls or emails you. Our team does not typically contact attendees regarding hotel rooms. To safely reserve hotel rooms, always do so through our hotel reservation page. Scammers will try to sell you on a "better deal." If you reserve a room through them you may lose your money and not get a room at all. Plus, reserving your room at our official event hotels helps make our conference possible.
  3. We do not call and ask to verify if you are attending the conference. Messages like this are not from our team.
  4. Check email addresses carefully before returning a message. If you receive an email about the conference, make sure it's coming from only one of the following email suffixes...
    1. masstimberconference.com, forestbusinessnetwork.com, OR woodworks.org
    2. You may also see the suffix "mapyourshow.com," "zoho.com," or "cvent.com." These are the email services we use to send the conference email newsletter and any order confirmations and updates.
    3. Official vendors that are part of the hotel reservation process for the International Mass Timber Conference, include:
      1. Cvent Passkey
      2. MCI
  5. Is a caller vague about why they're reaching out and why they want you to call back? This is a strong indication they are a scammer. They also love to include a fake confirmation number in order to make the message appear legitimate.

PLEASE NOTE

Scammers do not get their call and email lists from conference organizers. We never sell or rent your information to anyone. They are most likely pulling company names from the exhibit hall floorplan, sponsor list, etc, and then mining contact information from the corresponding company websites.

Due to the sheer number of scams and people working them, there is little we can do on our end except to warn attendees as best as possible.
